The heat for the Players Championship is expected to go all the way. But with an early finish on Sunday, Xander Schauffele was among the first to be available for their post-match press conferences. The 29-year-old shot four-under-par in the final round for a decent finish at the tournament. While it didn’t signal immediate success for the golfer, Schauffele reflected upon a “weird” year in terms of performance.

Inconsistency has been a major problem for the golfer, which has kept him away from glory. But the 2023 season has been kind to Schauffele, who has managed to play the weekend in almost all competitions so far.
“Yeah, just need to clean some stuff up. This week was a little sloppy. This whole year has been a little weird. Wasn’t too long ago since I had a WD which is unfortunate,” Schauffele said.

Indeed, the golfer withdrew from the season-opening Sentry Tournament of Champions due to a back injury. Schauffele initially played through the pain to shoot a decent 70, before the discomfort became too hot to handle.
Since then, the 29-year-old has been consistent with his performances, with a best finish of T3 at the American Express. He also finished in the top 10 at the WM Phoenix Open, scoring 10-under-par for the tournament.

Xander Schauffele has an embarrassing record at the Players Championship
The 29-year-old made his first start at TPC Sawgrass in 2018, where, against all odds, he finished tied for second place. The herculean performance left a lasting impression, with fans wanting more in the subsequent editions.
However, Schauffele has flopped at the Players. In the four appearances since the 2018 edition, the 29-year-old has missed the cut three times.

The golfer talked about getting over that curse at the beginning of this year’s event, which he has successfully completed. Schauffele finished with 6-under-par at the Players Championship.
