Greg Norman has been catching heat from the people in the golf world ever since he was announced as the CEO of LIV Golf. Former Team Europe Captain, Bernard Gallacher, openly criticized the 2-time Major Champion. He believes that the Saudi-backed Golf Tour will only get worse under the supervision of Norman.

Gallacher, who led Team Europe in 1991, 1993, and 1995, thinks the PGA Tour and DP World Tour can “weather the storm” for the time being, but that if LIV Golf’s essentially limitless resources continue to draw in more players, a solution will have to be reached.

The 2023 Ryder Cup is set to take place at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Rome, Italy. The upcoming Ryder Cup in Rome will not accept players who left the PGA Tour to join LIV Golf.

Bernard Gallacher comments on LIV Golf

Gallacher is worried that the Saudi-backed investment in LIV Golf will eventually lead to the downfall of the PGA Tour. With more players shifting to LIV Series, it only makes his comments more valid.

Gallacher said, “We’re in a tricky position now where major champions are switching to LIV Golf and hence potentially not being able to defend their crowns. It’s undermining and devaluing golfing competitions on both sides of the Atlantic.”

The retired Scottish golfer then claims that if things continue as they are, the Major Championships will look very ugly shortly. He said, “If things continue as they are, major championships will look completely different in years to come, and we must collectively ask ourselves if that’s really what we want.”

Gallacher believes that the PGA Tour and LIV Golf must have a conversation to reach a mutual settlement. However, he reckons Greg Norman is not the person to have a conversation with.

Gallacher goes off on Norman

Greg Norman eventually took the responsibility of becoming the CEO of the lucrative Tour. But his former European opponent believes Norman, who according to him is a controversial person, is not the right person for a mutual compromise.

Gallacher said, “I’ve known Greg for many years and have played with him several times. He’s a very ambitious, savvy businessman, but I think he’s always had an alternative vision for golf, which has now come to fruition in the form of LIV.”

Bernard Gallacher further claims that Norman has a very bullish personality. He added by saying, “His whole demeanour doesn’t lend itself well to having lots of friends, but we know he doesn’t care much about that.

The Scottish ends his statement by reiterating why Greg Norman is not the man to have a meeting with. He said, For me, there needs to be somebody in charge that’s amenable to the PGA and European Tours for it to work; Greg Norman isn’t that person.

With tensions rising to claim the throne for the primary Golf Tour, who according to you will win it?
