A Year After Getting into the Records Book With Lydia Ko, 20YO Pro Inches Closer to Win Another LPGA Title; Fans React

Last year, a Thai golf prodigy was honored with the 2022 Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year award after a spectacular year on the LPGA Tour. The player won two LPGA events, starting with the JTBC Classic and then the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship. After the wins, the young golfer became the No. 1 ranked player on the circuit after her nearest rival withdrew.

Her achievements made her share a pedestal feat with Lydia Ko, becoming the world No. 1 at the young age of 20. This year, playing at the Maybank Championship, the player is on a roll again, getting close to a win, and her performance has left the fans ecstatic. 

Young Thai player shines bright at the 2023 LPGA Maybank Championship

The third day of the Maybank Championship ended with Rose Zhang seizing a one-shot lead after the third round at 18-under 198. Thai players Atthaya Thitikul and Jasmine Suwannapura were in contention, with Thitikul posting 62 and Suwannapura 67 in Moving Round.

Thitikul’s stroke play was impressive. Some highlights of her game included an impressive 10 birdies in an error-free round. At the final hole, three players were tied at the top, and Zhang’s birdie allowed her to pull ahead. Thitikul, although grounded, showed contentment with her efforts.

LPGA Tour posted a picture with the breakdown of Thitikul’s game on their Instagram, and the comments section immediately filled with praise for the player and her game. The caption of the post read: “Unreal round from Atthaya.”

Fans celebrated the player and her performance in the comments section. Commending the player about her “fire” performance, many people replied with a slew of emojis. 

A user enthusiastically applauded the golfer’s performance mentioning that she completed the third round with an impressive score of 62, taking her overall score to -17. The fan said, “Awesome 62 finished Rd 3 at minus 17. Fairway hit and GiR is fabulous. Only 26 putts and bogey-free. Easier Pin position today. Keep grinding and go low on Sunday. You can win again.”

While praising her, a fan talked about the inclement weather at the event. “Great round! Is it preferred lie on-course? I have noted all the players marking/moving their ball on the fairways… due to the weather perhaps?”
