Although Thursday passed a while back, the Instagram page of Golf Digest went for a throwback post a few hours ago. The post was about a 35-year-old Canadian golfer. It spoke about one of his record-breaking moments from 2017.

The said golfer made the headlines during his monumental round of 59 at the CareerBuilder Challenge in 2017. This year, yet again, he made the headlines in June, but for very different reasons. However funny the incident may be, it still couldn’t make us forget the glory of his historic achievement from six years back.

Thirteen turns lucky for Canadian golfer

A recent post from Golf Digest’s Instagram page highlights a picture of Canadian golfer Adam Hadwin. The talking point is the text in the picture. “Adam Hadwin is the only player in the last 30 years to card 13 birdies in a round in the PGA Tour,” the caption read.

This feat happened in the CareerBuilder Challenge in 2017. In the third round of the event, on 21st January, Hadwin scored 13 birdies in a bogey-free round, to score a 59. He finished second in the event, despite the brilliant 13-under he scored in the third round.

He scored six birdies in a row from the second hole, and a single birdie in the ninth hole. Picking up his pace again from the 11th hole, he scored birdies in all holes barring the 16th and 18th holes. In other holes, he had scored a par.

The comment section had some interesting responses to offer. One particular comment caught our attention. “I carded 13 bogeys in one round, multiple times. Is that any good?” Well, maybe the commenter should check what’s the current record for the highest bogeys.

Coming back to the post, after seeing it, one can’t help but remember the highly entertaining fiasco that happened a few months earlier this year.

A hilarious case of mistaken identity

A few months back, a historic Canadian Open took place, where, after decades, a Canadian golfer won the title in a dramatic finish. In celebration of the historic moment, Hadwin set his feet into the green with a champagne bottle in his hand. As he sprayed his way to the hero of the moment, Nick Taylor, something happened.

Hadwin was mistaken for an intruder by a security guard. He jumped onto Hadwin and tackled the unsuspecting golfer onto the floor.

Later, the management thanked both parties for amicably clearing the air. Adam Hadwin took the incident light. He actually changed his display pictures to show a close view of the tackling incident. His wife took part in joking about the moment as well. How sportive!

For someone who has avidly followed sports even before I joined Essentially Sports, my transition to a golf writer has been immensely exciting. The sport has a certain calmness to it that attracts me. Much like every golf enthusiast. I, too, have many favorites in the golf world. Max Homa's humor makes me laugh, Rory McIlroy's intensity makes me curious, while Celine Boutier's awkwardness helps me relate more to these athletes and the sport, and Nelly Korda's smile just always mesmerizes me! Hence, diving in depth into all their lives and more is more than a joyous experience.
