How did Greg Norman end up being a business shark?

Norman, 67, is currently identified more for his business ventures than his records on the field. The Australian professional owns and runs a variety of businesses across all categories of work. Besides having a memorable career in the field as a professional golfer, Norman is one of the world’s biggest entrepreneurs today.

But how did he get so deeply involved in his entrepreneurial adventures? The golf legend has earned a name for himself and is often called the “shark” by his fans. He was inspired by 1930s tennis player Rene Lacoste, who was known for his crocodile logo long after his death.

In 2010, Norman shared details about how he planned his future and made sure he achieved what he wanted to. “In 1993 I gave myself a seven-year game-plan into 2000…I would then be 45 years old and did not want to become a ‘ceremonial golfer’,” he said. “I started planning my business, and promoting my image and brand, and after four or five years it was all going so well that I was able to stand back and play just a few golf tournaments, and focus more on my business.”

The golf ace, who also calls himself a “living brand”, owns multiple businesses in all fields including real estate, clothing, wine, and restaurants. In the 1990s, he also launched the Greg Norman Collection clothing line in conjunction with Reebok.

“That was when my image took hold and then expanded,” he said. That was when Norman decided to step into other fields of business alongside his clothing brand. But all his businesses couldn’t distract him from his love for golf.

As he often says, Norman is focused on growing the game of golf. And he has been doing everything in his hands to make things better and more comfortable for professional golfers. It has all been possible ever since he launched the LIV Golf league.
