2022 was a glorious year for the golf community, especially the LPGA tour. This year the women’s tour reached incredible heights with more winners and bigger purses for the events. Many golfers emerged victorious, and this season was great financially for female golfers. The 2022 season started with Danielle Kang’s victory at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions. However, the season has a tearful ending with Lydia Ko’s emotional win at the CME Group Tour Championship. This year had some of the most gripping plotlines in the history of female golf.

Lydia Ko made her final putt at the Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Florida, and won her second CME Group Tour Championship. It called for celebration for winning her second Player of the Year award. Her victory landed her at the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings. As a result, Ko also broke the previous record for the longest time between stints by moving up to No. 1. She became the second player, after Annika Sorenstam, to record a scoring average for the entire season that was lower than 69.

The rise of Minjee Lee was another hit of the LPGA 2022. This year, she won two tournaments, the Cognizant Founders Cup and the U.S. Women’s Open. Her great ball-striking technique astonished everyone, proving she was worth watching to play. The first half of the year saw Lee’s proximity-to-the-hole numbers rise. As a result, she catapulted into the lead for Rolex Player of the Year.

Ashleigh Buhai’s win gave a dramatic turn to the AIG Women’s Open. She won the event against Chun Hung with a forced play-off. However, the event’s highlight was that they played four extra hotels at the event, and Buhai took home the trophy on the fourth extra hole in August this year.

Ko’s outstanding performance in 2022 made this season her first year, with multiple victories since 2016. Also, it was the third time she had dominated her rivals. After five years, five months, and 17 days of leaving her top rank, Ko claimed it again after her performance. Even though she wasn’t sure, she’d ever return to the top spot.

Atthaya Thitikul, a 19-year-old golfer and rookie on the LPGA Tour, became the youngest golfer to hold the title of world no. 1. The LET Order of Merit from the previous year belonged to Thitikul. The two-time LPGA tour victor also won the Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year competition.
