Rory McIlroy was one of the prominent PGA Tour golfers to be vocal against the Saudi Arabia-backed league since its inception. After a while, he stopped talking against LIV Golf and its CEO, Greg Norman. However, he restarted his feud with the former world no. 1 since he won the RBC Canadian Open in June. And the Irish man finally revealed the reason behind his change in behavior towards Norman throughout this time.
In a featured story by the Washington Post titled ‘The Shark is on the attack again,’ Norman mentioned critics like McIlroy have been “brainwashed” by golf’s ruling class. The statement was all that the current world no. 1 needed to restart his feud with the Great White Shark.

“I thought,” he revealed recently during an interview with the Sunday Independent in Ireland. “‘You know what? I’m going to make it my business now to be as much of a pain in his ar*e as possible.'” Furthermore, he added, “I think if they had found someone less polarizing, LIV could have made more inroads.”
Notably, winning the RBC Canadian Open helped McIlroy get his 21st PGA Tour victory. And he called it “one more than someone else,” presumably denoting Greg Norman’s 20-win tally on his PGA Tour career.
Later, Norman made a controversial statement saying Tiger Woods and other PGA Tour players should be thanking his league for forcing Tour to increase the PIP and other purses. And McIlroy was one of the first golfers to retaliate against it.
“I think Greg (Norman) needs to go,” McIlroy said a day after Norman’s statement. “I think he just needs to exit stage left.”

There have been rumors regarding Greg Norman being fired as the LIV Golf CEO. Moreover, players like McIlroy mentioning Norman’s lack of leadership quality made the golf think ‘the Shark’ will leave the league before the 2023 season commences.
However, the Saudi-based company’s managing director, Majed Al-Sorour, denied all such allegations and called the rumors “patently false.”
