The 2024 season started pretty well for Bernhard Langer. But, despite a good ending to it, there was a bit of drama for him last year. Langer and his son Jason Langer secured their sixth PNC Championship victory, narrowly defeating Tiger Woods and his son Charlie Woods in a playoff. However, the win was not without controversy, as some golf fans questioned Langer’s strategic advantage under the competition’s age-based tee rules.

Critics argued the 67-year-old Langer benefited significantly from tees positioned closer to the hole, giving him an edge over younger competitors. Instead of universal praise for their performance, the spotlight shifted to the fairness of the event’s regulations and how they may have influenced the outcome. Nonetheless, it was a victory, after all. Weeks after the accusations, Bernhard Langer has come up for the golf world.
In an interview with Garrett Johnston, Bernhard Langer confirmed that the appearance at the 2025 Masters will be his last time teeing off at the Augusta National. Bernhard Langer, a Masters Stalwart for 40 years, played the tournament for the first time in 1982 and has won it twice in 1985, and 1993, which remain the only two Major wins in his golf career. Last year, he had to skip the event because he was recovering from a Pickleball injury, which had ruptured his Achilles tendon.
“As soon as I missed this year, I figured I would make the next Masters my last one. So the plan is to be at Augusta in April and say goodbye to The Masters as a competitor, but I will plan to be there for many more years to enjoy the tournament and to be a part of the Par 3 Contest, the Champions Dinner on Tuesday night and the many other traditions they have,” he said.

The Golf World calls Bernhard Langer an underrated player
Both of Bernhard Langer’s wins at the Augusta National were historic. The second one more, than the first time. In 1985, he defeated Seve Ballesteros, Ray Floyd, and Curtis Strange by just two strokes. But in 1993, he defeated Chip Beck by a whopping four strokes, showcasing his golfing skills to full potential.

Taking to this, one of them wrote, “Ohhhh 😢😢😢 time flies and sometimes too fast. You had so great times there Bernhard and I watched you every year playing at the Masters, where you won phenomenally two times. This is some kind of an end which makes me feel sad. I truly wish you success for your last Masters run this year and I believe it’s gonna be a great one.”
A year after his first Masters victory, the 6X Masters Champion Jack Nicklaus clinched the trophy for the last time in Augusta National. He defeated Greg Norman and Tom Kite by three strokes, and the Green Jacket was passed on to him. Taking to this, one of them wrote, “He gave the jacket to Jack Nicklaus and beat Bryson straight up some 36 years later…”
Bernhard Langer’s career has been nothing short of remarkable, boasting an impressive 124 professional wins worldwide. With 42 victories on the European Tour, Langer ranks second only to the late Spanish legend Seve Ballesteros, who secured 50 wins on the circuit. Additionally, Langer claimed three titles on the PGA Tour, further cementing his legacy in golf history.
