A host of PGA players switched to the LIV Golf Series after the season-ending FedEx Cup tournament. Among them were Australian stalwarts, Cameron Smith and Marc Leishman. Smith’s departure has hurt PGA’s image down under, but another player from the country player has stayed put and decided to stay with the PGA Tour, much to the delight of the association.

A former Masters winner, Adam Scott, has been linked to joining the rebel series for a long time. He possesses the perfect qualities for the needs of LIV – a former Major Championship winner with decent popularity in his mid-40s.

Being an Australian was also a major advantage. LIV CEO, Greg Norman is a fellow Aussie and has recruited top players from down under. World No.2, Cameron Smith, became the latest big-signing for LIV at a reported contract worth $100 million.

When quizzed on his decision to continue with the PGA, Scott initially wasn’t willing. “Well, it’s a big conversation that I really don’t think I should enter in at the moment,” he began. But with all details deeply thought through and processed, there were more than a few words to the story.

“Why I’m still with the PGA Tour is because it suits me best to still be on the PGA Tour. It’s as simple as that, really,” he said. “The one thing I haven’t grasped is giving up my entire professional life and trying to achieve these things here and just leaving it behind. I’m obviously not ready to do that.”

Interestingly, Norman was also asked by reporters about the stand on Scott.“How can I answer that question? There were discussions early on with Adam and I think right now with Marc and Cam being the principals of Team Australia, I think quite honestly it’s over to them,” he said.

What does the future hold for Scott?

The Aussie golfer only has a singular Major tournament as a definite target ahead of the new season. The 42-year-old will have to battle it out for the rest like the other pros on the circuit. Currently ranked No.30 in the world, he will need to stay in the top 50 for a place in other Major Championships and prominent tournaments.

Furthermore, the biggest upside of turning down LIV will be Scott’s representation at the Presidents Cup. With many of his fellow Australians plying their trade in LIV Golf, Scott will take the mantle as a senior player, guiding many rookies who’ll be making their debut at the event in Quail Hollow Club, North Carolina. The Presidents Cup begins this weekend.
