Jon Rahm‘s unsurprising yet scandalizing shift to LIV Golf has created a lot of controversy. After signing the deal, the Spanish player sang praises of the Saudi-backed league and how it is bringing positive change to the sport. However, the praises were met with vigorous disapproval and were drowned in criticism by the anti-LIV Golfers.

While many PGA Tour legends have heavily criticized Rahm, there is one veteran who has roasted him and other defectors badly. And now golf diva Paige Spiranac is sharing her bold take on the matter.

Right after Rahm’s defection news surfaced, one of the PGA veterans had their blood boiling over it. And when he got the opportunity, Fred Couples used it fully to call out players like Rahm who were moving over to the rival league. According to Couples, the real reason behind various golfers jumping ships was the significant financial benefits associated with joining the breakaway league.

The 64-year-old went on to share his disdain towards LIV Golf, and commented, “It’s a great product, and it is a great show… my a**.” The 15-time PGA Tour winner believes that the true flag bearers of change are legends such as Tiger Woods, Arnold Palmer, and Jack Nicklaus, and not the PIF-funded league that revolutionized the game.

As the entire golfing world shares their opinions on the matter, the Golf Queen also imparts some wise words on the topic. In the latest episode of her podcast, Playing a Round with Paige, the golf beauty said that Rahm’s move is consistent with everything that people do in life. Spiranac feels that not everyone holds the same views about their job. She went on to highlight the logical aspect behind Rahm’s decision and said, “I don’t think Jon Rahm has ever really come out and said previously that he cares about the growth of the game. He wants to win majors and he probably wants to make money to set up his family for a lifetime.”

She continued, “For generations. It’s generational wealth, right there.” The golf diva further shed some more light on the topic and addressed the reasons behind the emotions of many, like Fred Couple, regarding the whole situation.

Spiranac understands both the players’ perspectives on the matter

In the episode, the 30-year-old sympathized with Couples and said she could see why the old players are so protective over the tour. At the same time, she emphasized the uniqueness of the situation and said, “And so I can see why Freddy feels that way. But none of them were also offered this opportunity.” She further added, “And it would have been interesting to go back and see who would have taken it if it was offered to them.”
