The 3M Open is a double added bonus for a new PGA Tour Pro
The 3M Open is a very special event for Frankie Capan III. Frankie plays on the Korn Ferry Tour and has long harbored the dream of playing at the event. While in college he has been trying to make the cut, but was unsuccessful. But this year a miracle happened and he was offered a sponsor exemption which he accepted. The event in his hometown marks his debut on the PGA Tour as a professional which is a very big moment for the Minnesota resident. And to make this occasion more special, Capan’s caddie for the event is his mom, Charlynn.

Speaking about how his mother took the role from his early days, Frankie said, “Originally she was supposed to be just a fill-in caddie, and the more success we had, the more we realized that she should just keep staying on the bag.”
Though other people caddied for him Frankie found his way back to his mother. He continues, “We had a nice finish in Raleigh at the Korn Ferry event there, and then the next day punched our ticket to the U.S. Open. Once we did that I figured, you know, better to just stick with her for the time being and see what we could do.”

Mother’s presence on the field is a big advantage for Frankie
This week he aims for the winning prize at the 3M Open. He believes it to be a very special week no matter the consequences. According to him, his father has taught him that if he is not winning then he is learning and he wishes to apply the same. And having his mom on the bag is a great advantage for him because she understands him and his game so much more. He says “She’s kind of understood how I like to play the game more, what shots I like to hit at certain times.”
