After dominant four days of golf, Team USA claimed back the 2022 Presidents Cup after defeating the International Team. Though many considered the American Team as the favorites, no one expected a one-sided affair. With such a great display of performance, it was quite apparent that records were broken by the Americans.

Despite some close finishes in the cup, the U.S. defeated the International Team with a huge margin of 17.5 – 12.5. Performances from Max Homa and Xander Schauffele were widely appreciated by the fans. However, what excited the fans more was the excessive records being made in the Quail Hollow Club. What were the records made or matched by the Americans?

After the first five games, Team USA managed to clinch all the wins against their opponents. With these wins, the 2022 American Team matched the record of the 2000 American Team, becoming the only side to sweep the opening session.

against teamed up with his fellow American Schauffele to take down Hideki Matsuyama and Adam Scott. Much to the Americans’ delight, they defeated the International Team with a score of 6&5. The score of 6&5 is the largest margin of victory in the opening match of the week at the Presidents Cup of all time.

The American Team had some of the highest-ranked golfers in the OWGR. 17 American players were ranked in the top 15 of the Official World Golf Ranking at the time of the last two editions of the Presidents Cup. Whereas no International Team player held a similar rank.

With such highly-ranked golfers in a single team, it resulted in the best average World Ranking of any roster in the Presidents Cup history

Playing foursomes can be hard. However, it isn’t that difficult for Jordan Speith. The 3 time Major winner became the only player in Presidents Cup history to play 6+ foursomes matches and win all of them. This makes his foursome record 6-0-0.

He ended the competition with a personal record of 5-0-0, making him the 6th player in Presidents Cup history to have 5 wins with no losses in a single week.

Though Jordan Speith holds the perfect record for foursome format with a record of 6-0-0, Thomas too has something to cherish for himself. JT matched his American teammate’s record for a perfect record in a specific format, with no losses and no defeats. The 2 time Major winner holds the perfect record in the four-ball format with a record of 5-0-0.

He ended the tournament with points per match average of 0.73, the best in U.S. history for a player with 5 or more starts who has competed in both the Presidents Cup as well as Ryder Cup.

In the 2017 Presidents Cup, the American Team took the largest lead under the current format against the International team after the first two sessions, leading by a score of 19-11. The 2022 Team USA tied that record of leading by the largest margin after two sessions, after holding the lead by a score of 8-2.

Though most records of Team USA have been the depiction of utter dominance, there also have been few that went the disastrous way. World Number one seems to have become a recipient of one such record.

Though Scheffler made the record for debuting the Presidents Cup as world number one, his performance at the Tournament wasn’t to his standards. He became the first player since Greg Norman in 1996 to not win his first two matches in the tournament despite being the reigning world number one in golf.

Moreover, he worsened the record by failing to win the third match, making his record 0-2-1. This matched the record of Nick Price in 1994, for the number one ranked golfer failing to win any of his first three wins. He ended the competition with a winless record of 0-3-1, matching Price’s 1994 record.

After making records for themselves individually, both Thomas and Speith then matched the record for a pair to go 4-0-0 in a single Presidents Cup. Moreover, the duo became the first pair in the competition’s history to go 4-0-0 without letting a single match get to the 18th hole.

Max Homa had an outstanding tournament. He went undefeated with a score of 4-0-0, matching the record of rookies going 4 consecutive wins or better at the Presidents Cup.

Davis Love III is very much familiar with leading the American team, whether it’s the Ryder Cup or the Presidents Cup. So evidently enough, fans had high expectations from the leadership of the 58-year-old.

Love’s captain picks, Jordan Speith and Max Homa, concluded the tournament with 5 and 4 wins, respectively. This resulted in both stars holding the record for most points made by the captain’s pick in Presidents Cup history.

Undoubtedly, the Presidents Cup was worth being remembered for years to come for Team USA.
