“Always be No.1:” An Emotional Lexi Thompson Reaches Another Career Milestone Leaving Fans in a Frenzy

Lexi Thompson is having quite the night. Just months after etching her name on history, the 11-time LPGA Tour winner now rubs shoulders with the likes of Nancy Lopez, Judy Rankin, and Juli Inkster. Despite not playing at the CME Group Tour Championship, Thompson walked the green carpet at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort courtesy of winning the Founders Award.

Chosen by her peers for showcasing the spirit and ideals of LGPA’s founders, the 28-year-old walked up to the podium teary-eyed and walked down, all smiles hugging Nancy Lopez. For her fans, it was a feast for their eyes. The Florida native hasn’t had her best season. But that didn’t matter as world no. 28 went on to have perhaps one of the most memorable nights of her life.

Thompson went on to talk about her plans and how Hall of Famer Nancy Lopez has inspired her journey. Referring to Lopez, Thompson stated, “has won every tournament possibly.” But the 48-time LPGA Tour winner was lauded more for her contribution to the game of golf after her retirement. Thompson, ever seeking to inspire and uplift, finds a resonance there. More than her result after her career, she wants to “leave the game in a better place.

For Thompson’s fans, she is still the best 

Lexi Thompson has reached the top spot of the Rolex World Ranking 12 times in her 11-year career. Although, a current dip in form has slipped her to no.28, for her fans she will “always be no.1.”

However, Thompson has not been on her A-game this season. She has made only three top-ten finishes this year and missed cuts in all but one major. Naturally, fans hope to see her back on top next season.
