This week, the LPGA is organizing the Maybank Championship. For its venue, it has chosen Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club. Also, this is one of the four LPGA events in Asia. Several renowned golfers like Nelly Korda, Lydia Ko, and others who own top places in the world ranking are constituting the field.

But as per the latest news, due to the disruptive weather on the course, some of these professional golfers are struggling with their gameplay. Except for an American Solheim Cup rookie who is sitting atop the leaderboard.

American golf prodigy thrives amid seasoned players

Golf is a game that challenges physical and mental tenacity. Over that, the weather in Kuala Lumpur is giving extra tough times to the golfers. Several renowned golfers, like Nelly Korda and Lydia Ko are struggling with their gameplay due to the drizzling rain. Currently, Lydia Ko is sitting at T10, and Nelly Korda is at T11. 

While the world number six and world number nine are facing hardship, a young golfer has risen above the rest. Currently, Rose Zhang is at the top of the leaderboard with 18 under par.

As far as her performance in the third round is concerned, she quite tactfully secured her first place on the leaderboard. In the third round, Zhang garnered eight birdies and one bogey on hole 14 as per the LPGA leaderboard.

At the end of the round, her score was 65. While Nelly’s luck didn’t favor her much in Friday’s round, she had six birdies and one bogey on hole four in Moving Round. In the end, her third-round score was sealed at 67. Lydia too picked up her game a bit. She had eight birdies and one bogey. Her score was sealed at 65 in Moving Round. Apart from these professional players, let’s take a look at the performance of Suwannapura Jasmine, who was previously thriving on the leaderboard.

Suwannapura Jasmine’s performance at Maybank Championship so far

An athlete who’s doing exceptionally well on Asian greens, apart from Rose Zhang, is Suwannapura Jasmine. On Thursday, she was topping the leaderboard. As far as her performance is concerned, she bagged seven birdies in the opening round. Added to that, she also secured an eagle and gave her a score of 63 in the first round.

 Then in the second round, she had five birdies and two bogeys. Thus, clinching a score of 69. Then, moving forward to the next round, she garnered six birdies and locked her score at 67. The main competition is between Thailand-based players Jasmine & Atthaya Thitikul and Zhang at present. Only time will tell who wins the prize on Sunday.
