Amid All the Chaos, ‘Young’ Golfers Receive Huge Praises From LIV Golf Pro After Taking ‘Massive Risk’

The game of golf has always seen a certain trajectory in the career of its athletes. However, everything changed with the inception of LIV Golf in the sporting world. The Saudi-backed league offered a new path for aspiring players who, otherwise, had to take a fixed trail that was followed by many of their predecessors.

The new circuit saw a handful of hopeful golfers jumping on the bandwagon in what can only be called a bold decision. And, an LIV Golf Professional agreed with the same. He went ahead to praise the couple of athletes who grabbed at the opportunity, all the while dubbing it as a “massive risk” no less!

LIV Golf Pro dishes out praises for young players

An aspiring athlete in the gentleman’s game, before the PIF-funded league, had to go through a set of steps to make it to the PGA Tour, such as the Q-School, the Korn Ferry Tour, and other such mini-tours. However, the Middle Eastern circuit provided the players with another pathway to becoming a pro which players like Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra and David Puig seized.

In an interview with the Asian Tour, Graeme McDowell, an LIV Golf professional, conveyed his approval of the golfers for their decision to join the rival of the PGA Tour. Especially taking the names of Chacarra and Puig, the Northern Irishman went ahead to mention how “interesting” it is that “these young guys” chose a path that even they were “not really familiar with!”

However, the 1X major winner was quick to express his happiness with the duo for managing to put up an excellent display of golf all the while taking the “massive risk” that is joining the Saudi-backed league. The two, along with other players including Andy Ogletree, James Piot, and Turk Pettit, were suspended from playing in affiliated events making them ineligible for PGA Tour University program benefits by the circuit.

Although all five did not have membership on the Korn Ferry Tour, the Spaniard duo were likely to gain the status once college was finished, making McDowell dub the move as a risky one. Seeing the happiness of the 4X PGA Tour winner does pique one’s curiosity as to what exactly the Spanish golfers managed to pull off in the Saudi-backed circuit.

Puig and Chacarra, the aspiring LIV golfers

The two joined the PIF-funded league in 2022. Chacarra turned down a Korn Ferry Tour card by announcing how he would return to collegiate golf at Oklahoma State. However, he shocked the entire golf world when he made an about-turn to join LIV Golf a while later. Whereas, Puig left Arizona State after competing in the circuit’s inaugural event in London.

The Fireballs GC member was able to clinch his maiden LIV Golf victory, and his second pro win, at the Bangkok Invitational, where he finished with scores of 19-under 197 over the three days, ahead of Patrick Reed. However, the Torque GC player was only able to claim his first professional win, a little while ago, at the International Series in Singapore, scoring 19-under 269.
