It has been a month since the golfers concluded the indoor tech-based golf league. For its debut season, TGL has garnered an average of 504,000 viewership, an exceptional feat. Despite its initial criticism and backlash, the league was among the top preferences for the fans. However, after the first season, the update for an expansion was under the shadow, as Tiger Woods, who is struggling with injury, has been away from the course. But now, things have started to pick up the pace for the tech-infused league.
Amid Woods’s silence and time off from the course, the speculation for the league has peaked. However, earlier, CEO Mike McCarley‘s statement about prospective investors during the season shared assurance. Now, just weeks after the claim, a new development from Woods has made it official. As per the recent report, TGL’s plan of expansion has begun as they have filed for a new trademark.
TGL filed for a “Motor City Golf Club” trademark on Tuesday for $3,500 with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The six-team league, which began in January 2025, has now officially hinted at expansion. The trademark process is aiming for its new edition: a new team from Detroit, being the seventh team for season two. Even though there is no confirmation if the team will be introduced in the 2026 edition. But interestingly, the Chief Revenue Officer, Jason Langwell, shared about possible future benefits of expanding to Detroit. He shared about it last summer.

However, apart from that, no other information has been shared. The Ford Family, who attended season one of the TGL, might be the prospective investor in the team. As they own the Detroit Lions of the NFL as well. Regardless, as per speculation, the CEO, Mike McCarley, has also hinted at the expansion and interest of potential bidders to step forward as a part of season two.

With the fans expecting season two, McCarley has already hinted at the expansion and the presence of potential investors. He earlier said, “But we got a lot of really interesting, diverse people domestically and internationally. They can kind of take a look and see what it looks like going forward.” After his statement of having prospective investors in season one. The presence of the Ford family and their prior history in sports involvement creates a bridge of speculation for their interest in owning a team.
