Steve Williams’ Blunt Comments On Tiger Woods
During an interview with Graham Bensinger, Steve Williams made a huge comment on the ongoing debate of “whether Tiger will be able to break Jack Nicklaus‘ record or not.” Steve said, “He has to have a career equal to Phil Mickelson (win four Majors) from here on…” In his interview, he seems to have implied that the days of THE Tiger Woods are gone. To support his argument, he further said, “He could hit shots that no one else could hit … (but) right now, Tiger doesn’t have that intimidation factor. That’s part of his artillery that’s not there any more.”
Steve reasoned out his claims about his comments. He said, “If Tiger didn’t get injured in 2009, and had to have that long period of wife and the game, he very well could be there now.” Steve thinks that those six months when he was out of the game entirely have overplayed his chances of meeting or even breaking Jack’s record.

Before their acrimonious split, Steve had been by Tiger’s side for some of the most iconic moments in golf history, including the “Tiger Slam” in 2000 and 2001. Williams had been blunt about his stance on whether Tiger has it in him to break Jack Nicklaus’s record. Is his statement motivated by his hurt, or does he truly believe it?

Woods aimed at winning 21 majors
Woods aspired to be in the race to be at the top in every aspect of golf. Tiger, along with his long-term caddie, Steve Williams had set a target to win 21 majors in his career. According to an article by Golf Monthly, “Tiger was obsessed with breaking Jack’s record,” said Williams. He further added, “Tiger wanted to get to 20. I said 21 is my favorite number, so let’s make it 21 and when you get to 21 you’re not seeing me again. And he said that’s because I’m retiring too.”

By 2008, Woods had 14 majors in his basket. He could have easily been close to achieving his target if it were not for the break he took after the car crash. A series of affairs followed that. Since then, one setback after another has hit the legend, resulting in injuries. The car crash of 2021, which almost took away his leg, drifted him further away from his goal. But, as the saying goes, it’s never too late. And his fans are waiting for the legend to attain his target.
