LIV Golf’s logo is the bone of contention

The LIV Golf tour, funded by the Saudi Government’s Public Investment Fund, has been plagued with controversy since its launch in June 2022.

The league quickly signed players from the PGA and DP World Tour. Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambaeu, Cameron Smith, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson  and Sergio Garcia are some of the most notable defectors.

However, once the merger happened between all these three tours in June earlier this year, golf fans began to change their attitude toward LIV Golf. Even the CEO of Adidas described it as a “normal evolution” for the sport. But now Adidas has filed a legal suit against LIV Golf over logo similarities with the US Patent and Trademark. As per frontofficesports.com, the apparel company has claimed that LIV Golf’s logo “incorporates three stripes in a manner that is confusingly similar to the Adidas Marks in appearance and overall commercial impression.”

A trademark attorney though has stated that Adidas is “unlikely to win the case”, but a settlement could restrict LIV’s use of the logo on certain products.
