After spending almost 4 months away from the sport, Phil Mickelson is making a comeback to golf through the inaugural event of the LIV Golf Invitational Series. Notably, the golfer released a statement regarding why he will be playing in the new league. But unlike his fans, former professional golfer Paige Spiranac is not happy with his return.
Mickelson took a break from the sport after his controversial comments about the PGA Tour went viral. But ending his sabbatical, he recently released a statement through social media to let his fans know he’s back.

“I am ready to come back to play the game I love,” Mickelson wrote. “But after 32 years, this new path is a fresh start,” he stated, indicating that he is making a comeback through the LIV Golf Series. Furthermore, the statement read, “I also love the progressive format and think it will be exciting for fans.”
He mentioned one of the reasons why he will be joining the league. However, Mickelson failed to mention how much the LIV Golf has offered him to make an appearance. And Paige Spiranac didn’t agree with that.
These elaborate statements are annoying. No one going to the LIV tour actually cares about the progression of the game. I wish they just said “because it’s a shit ton of money.”

Notably, according to reports, the golfer signed with LIV Golf for an approximate $200 million appearance fee. And the former professional golfer turned social media influencer Spiranac didn’t like the idea of him not sharing the amount himself.
Will Phil Mickelson ever play on the PGA Tour again?
The first field list of the LIV Golf Invitational Series comprised only 42 confirmed players. However, the new list has 48 players, including Phil Mickelson. Soon after the final field list was published, Mickelson shared a statement through social media.
“I’m thrilled to begin with LIV Golf, and I appreciate everyone involved,” his statement said. “I also intend to play the majors,” Mickelson wrote.

Mickelson will make his comeback at the LIV Golf Invitational Series on June 9th at Centurion Club in London. Notably, it will be his first public appearance since the 2022 Saudi International. He even withdrew from playing the Masters and the PGA Championship.
However, Mickelson has already declared he will be playing in the majors. Hence, the next time the golf world will see him play in an event other than the Invitational Series would be the U. S. Open at the Country Club. According to his statement, Mickelson will also be playing at the 150th Open Championship at the Old Course, St. Andrews.
