The new season of golf is bringing in new updates from the golfer. At the top and talk of the golf world is the new partnership deal between Max Homa and Cobra Puma Golf. After almost a decade, the American golfer has switched from Titleist to Cobra. Now, with the new partnership announcement and the first tournament of the year, The Sentry. Fans and even analysts have started to share their thoughts.

However, after the first round at the signature event, the 34-year-old has performed decently. He is currently placed in the 16th position with a score of 4 under par. While Tom Hoge topped the leaderboard with a 9 under-par score. Even before the round, an analyst has started to look back in history and share examples similar to what Max Homa might set with his current brand switch.

The year’s first podcast video from the No Laying Up, featuring Kevin Van Valkenburg, shared a brief history of the brand switch. Unfortunately, it is the opposite of Max Homa’s expectations. During the video, he said, “History has not been super kind to people who have made switches like this. We are digging a little through archives and you know Payne Stewart made a switch, Lee Janzen made a switch, Nick Price made a switch.” After sharing the names, he explained what happened with the golfers after the switch. Continuing that, he said, “They all kind of didn’t work out for them.”

While sharing further, Valkenburg tried to remember names from the flip side, but sadly could only get 1 name, “Flip side of it, you know like Phil Mickelson had most of his success after he switched to Callaway and won five of his six majors.” With just one example of brilliant success, the editorial director of No Laying Up shared that most of the golfers after the switch had a “debatable” kind of career.

Though a victoryless 2024 was already hard on him, now that experts are discouraging his move. It is going to be a tough one for the golfer to deal with, however, he likes his new partnership.

Homa had personally wanted to change his golfing essentials as he struggled last year with his driver. With the new partnership, he shared with GOLF.com how the equipment is made according to his game by saying, “The Cobra Puma Golf brands are undoubtedly a natural fit for my game, style, and personality and I’m looking forward to a long-term relationship that will be fun and exciting for years to come.”

He even shared, “I am super excited to join the Cobra Puma Golf team. Gear that’s on the cutting edge of technology and the most comfortable shoes in the game are a great combination for any player.” While the new driver could be a game-changer for him. However, as per the experts and archives, it hasn’t been the case with most of the golfers.
