Annika Sorenstam has spent numerous years on the field playing professional golf. However, she was also a member of the Swedish National team from 1987 to 1992. Despite her amazing records and performances on the field, the golf legend decided to retire from the game in 2008. And after her retirement, Sorenstam continued to play golf as a retired athlete.

The Sweden-born golfer is still counted among the most successful players on the LPGA Tour, with 90 professional tournament victories, including 72 LPGA wins. She also went on to win 10 major championships in her career.

Annika Charlotta Sorenstam entered the world on October 9, 1970, in Stockholm County, Sweden. Her father, Tom Sorenstam, is a retired IBM official. And her mother, Gunilla Sorenstam, used to be a bank employee. Despite having her parents in fields far apart from golf, Annika was able to sprinkle a little magic of the sport on her sister Charlotta. And today, Charlotta is responsible for mentoring in Annika’s golfing academy.

The golf star fell in love with golf when she was merely 12 years old. Before turning pro, Sorenstam won numerous titles at the University of Arizona and even claimed victory at the world amateur championship. Sorenstam was also the first non-American freshman to win the individual NCAA Division I Championship.

Although Sorenstam was much more talented than most other players, she missed her LPGA Tour card in 1992. Her career started at the Ladies European Tour, and she eventually won the LET Rookie of the Year honor the next year. It was in 1994 that she finally stepped into the LPGA Tour and won the same honor again.

Sorenstam entered her first US Women’s Open in 1995 and was able to win 10 major championships in the same season. Her game was surreal and she made millions of fans at the time. Later in 2001, Sorenstam became the first-ever female player to shoot a score of 59 in competition.
