Sebastian Munoz signs for LIV Golf Series

The 30-year-old, who has shown plenty of promise, joins LIV Golf ahead of the second season of the event. Munoz last played at the Farmers Insurance Open, where he failed to make the cut. He’ll join Joaquin Niemann’s team, Torque GC, in the Saudi-backed league.

For the past year, Munoz has been struggling with a back problem that has prohibited him from playing his best game. He’s currently 90th in the world rankings, but the Columbian has certainly caught the eye with his performances.

The man from Bogota made history last year by becoming the first player on the US circuit to record multiple rounds of 60 or lower in the same season. His amazing show at the President’s Cup was overwhelming, where he took down reigning Masters champion and then world No. 1, Scottie Scheffler, in the singles matchup.

While his team couldn’t muster a commendable fight, Munoz played flawlessly. He remained undefeated in his three games, but with his LIV contract, few would bet on him to play in the tournament ever again.

How did the fans react to LIV’s latest signing? After claims of a big-name move doing the rounds, the majority were left disappointed with the signing of a 90th-ranked player. But some fans, who were witnesses to his President Cup heroics, were pleased with the signing. Here’s a selection of those tweets.

Why did Munoz choose LIV over the PGA Tour?

While he hasn’t made a statement on his decision yet, Munoz is a self-proclaimed Phil Mickelson fan. The 30-year-old has time and again revealed his admiration for the 6-time major championship winner, and has claimed to copy his instincts in dire situations.

“When I won on the PGA Tour, I asked myself ‘what would Phil do in this circumstance, how would he take on this shot?’” Munoz once said. “I always ask myself that. Phil is my inspiration.”
