The golf world never rests. Hurricane Helene is bearing down on Augusta National Golf Club and is threatening the iconic home of the ever-loved Masters tournament. And the fans are sending out prayers to those already affected by this powerful storm. Helene was once a Category 4 storm, but now it has weakened to Category 1, we don’t think that makes it any better.

The residents and visitors are bracing for heavy rainfall, flash flooding, and strong winds, while the golf world is left gutted. The storm’s impact will be felt far beyond the golf course and will be affecting families, businesses, and communities. The forecasters are warning the people of Augusta to prepare for heavy rainfall, flooding, and hazardous winds. The storm has already claimed one life in Tampa and caused some major destruction in St. Petersburg.

Recently, a meteorologist named Ella Dorsey made a post on her X account showing the fans the condition of her friend’s backyard after the storm. The picture captured dark skies with a lot of big trees that were now touching the ground. Several trees were broken from their trunks, and it was not a pretty sight, to say the least. The caption read, “Augusta got smacked with hurricane-force winds this morning. This is my friend’s front yard.”

Andy Johnson, the founder of Fried Egg Golf, also expressed his concerns about the condition of the people of Augusta. He replied to Dorsey’s tweet and wrote, “For golf fans, I wonder how Augusta National Fair went; I hope everyone in Augusta is safe.”

Even PGA Tour veteran John Daly was not behind in talking about the matter and reposted a picture of the weather forecast on his story with the caption, “Prayers for all those in the path of the big bend! God bless, and everyone, please be safe during Hurricane Helene! #thisismyhome”. Fans also expressed their thoughts in the comment section and sent out prayers for those suffering right now.

Fans took time to share what they thought about the destroyed backyard shown in the picture. This one fan said, “Looks like a giant lawn mower came and shredded all the trees,”  and it couldn’t have been described any better. Another fan said, “I need some pictures of Augusta National and if there was any damage there.”  There is no update on how the hurricane affected the prestigious golf club.

Well, this is not the first time any natural calamity has struck a golf club. The same thing happened in Greensboro, North Carolina, during the Wyndham Championship when Tropical Storm Debby brought heavy rains and strong winds to the area. This was a major threat that ended up disrupting the tournament. The storm was a major concern, with up to eight inches of rain forecasted over the first two days and wind gusts reaching 25-30 mph. Many were praying for the safety of the locals, just like this one fan who said, “OOF! Hope everybody is OK, while this one added to the prayer by saying, “Hope you guys stay safe. Curious about Augusta National GC?”.

Another golf course felt nature’s fury last year at the Oakdale Golf Club in Minnesota. The course was hit by a severe hailstorm. One minute, golfers were playing on the beautiful green course, and the next uncountable huge hailstones were pounding the grounds. The golfers rushed for shelter while recording shocking videos as they tried to stay safe. The storm badly damaged the course and left debris everywhere, and this one fan was worried about exactly that: “Damn, I hope the course is okay,”  while this fan said, “So sad.”

While we continue to enjoy the Presidents Cup, it is also important for us to keep those who are struggling in our prayers.
