The PGA Tour recently released a statement saying putting a suspension on memberships of all players who have joined the LIV Golf Series. This was in response to golf legends leaving the PGA Tour and playing in the rival tour. As a result, PGA decided to take away all the benefits it had offered to the players earlier.
It came as a clear shock to those players as they were expecting to play in the PGA Tour as well. Along with their memberships, the Tour also canceled all sponsorships of those players who were associated with the Tour. It was mentioned in the statement that joining the LIV Tour was the same as breaching the terms of the PGA Tour.

Among these players is six-time major winner Phil Mickelson, who recently joined the Saudi-funded series. Mickelson had also made some comments about the PGA Tour recently calling it greedy. No players were in support of these statements made by the golfer. However, Phil Mickelson apologized shortly after the statements he made went viral.
Finally, a ray of hope appeared for Phil Mickelson and other players in the form of the USGA’s recent statement. The statement said that the players in the LIV Golf league will be allowed to play in the U.S. Open this weekend.
USGA’s statement relieves Phil Mickelson and other players
“We simply asked ourselves this question: should a player who had earned his way into the 2022 U.S. Open, via our published field criteria, be pulled out of the field as a result of his decision to play in another event? And we ultimately decided that they should not.” the statement said.
The statement also clearly mentioned that it doesn’t support the actions or comments made by any individuals. It also said that allowing these players to play in the U.S. Open doesn’t mean or showcase any support to the alternative series, which in this case is the LIV Series.
