Known for his unorthodox and daredevil lifestyle, John Daly usually doesn’t yearn for exercise. In fact, the golf icon is famous for his defiance of boundaries regarding physical fitness. However, these sedentary habits haven’t hampered the golfer’s performance much on the green. Additionally, Daly, despite his health concerns, has been rather active in recent tournaments, including the 2023 Open Championship.
Daly is now at the JCB Golf Course in the United Kingdom, competing at the JCB Championship on the European Senior Tour. These appearances, of course, are just weeks after the golf pro left the hospital. Hence, while attempting to tame the naturally challenging course under the European sky, Long John found himself in front of the camera, talking about his health.

John Daly engages in a short Q&A session as he opens up about his typical practice style
During the 2023 JCB Championship, one of the reporters stopped John Daly for a quick interview. The golf professional was polite enough to engage in the session and answer questions related to his health and game. Before other details could be explored, the heterogeneous reply to the first query transitioned between seriousness and humor.
The 57-year-old revealed that he feels that he is getting close to hitting the ball fully, referencing his knee concerns. He added that it might still take a month or so to reach optimum functionality. Following this reveal was a fun comment: Daly said, “But it beats sitting on a recliner doing nothing.” With this, the 1991 PGA Championship winner flaunted his love for the sport, proving yet again that golf was like a religion to him.

His response even drew a chuckle from the female interviewer, who then went on to ask the golfer about his cooking skills. Daly’s reply, in turn, brought forth another interesting revelation. According to Wild Thing, the players would be attending a barbecue in the evening, and he would be cooking for them his renowned “whiskey-based” steak.
Despite his injuries and various health concerns, the interview, golf, food, and drinks are undoubtedly Day’s ideal day out. Coming straight out of recovery, while many pros would focus on healing and working out to get sturdier, that was just unprecedented for Daly. In fact, he laughs at the thought of him working out, just like he did last month.
Joking about his lack of workouts is not something new for Daly
Earlier in July, at the Kaulig Companies Championship, the golf legend, before teeing up, opened up about his knee injury. He said that playing for too long usually results in swelling in that part of the body. While he unrolled the problems faced by a golfer with health issues trying to reach his full potential, he also humorously commented on his practice and lifestyle.

Touching on the same, John Daly said, “It’s that old saying—I don’t work out cuz God only gave me a certain amount of heartbeats; why the h**l do I want to rush it?”

This just proves how unbothered Daly appears when it comes to workouts and routines related to them. Prior to this, earlier this year, Long John also cheerfully disclosed, “You gotta get with the John Daly Gym-Lazium.” This idea of the golfer detailed a gym that will have a bar stool on every treadmill.

And that was enough to get the room rolling in laughter. So, it is quite evident that the professional star likes to stay away from strenuous drills.
