Phil Mickelson had been on a hiatus for four months before making a comeback last week. Since then, the golf world has noticed two things that changed from the last time he played in a tournament. One – he now plays for the LIV Golf instead of the PGA Tour. Two – he has grown a mustache and beard!

It is the first time that the golf world is witnessing Lefty with so much facial hair. And like his fans, even the reporters were curious to know about it and asked him about it in the 122nd U. S. Open press meet.

“Amy likes it,” Mickelson said after the room stopped laughing when a reporter questioned his facial hair. “As long as she likes it, it’s here.” Furthermore, the 6-time major winning champion added, “when she says it’s gone, it’s gone.”

Amy Mickelson is the Hall of Famer’s wife of more than 25 years. Since it is widely known that the golfer is a devoted husband, it is not surprising that Mickelson kept the facial hair as per her wish.

In fact, he almost ditched a chance to win the Wanamaker Trophy, as he wanted to be with Amy for the birth of their first child. The couple has two daughters and a son named Amanda, Sophia, and Evan.

Why did Phil Mickelson join the LIV Golf?

“I also love the progressive format (of LIV Golf Invitational Series) and think it will be exciting for fans.” Mickelson described why he chose to play in the new league through a written statement.
