Former world one Luke Donald, who has won four Ryder Cups and will lead Team Europe next year, recently shared a story of how much the bar bill of Team Europe cost compared to the American Team. The amount will leave you mesmerized.
How much was Team Europe’s bar bill at the 2004 Ryder Cup?
Donald made an appearance at the Beef’s Golf Club podcast recently. He shared his excitement for next year’s competition and leading Team Europe. The English golfer then shared a story about how he recently returned back to Oakland Hills, the host of the 2004 Ryder Cup which he had won with the European Team.

Though it was only a corporate day, Donald had a golf session with one of the members of the club. The member then revealed a folklore that has been popular in the club since 2004’s Ryder Cup. The former World number one said that the member asked him if he has ever heard about the story of the bar bills.

Luke Donald replied, “No, never heard that one”. The member, according to Donald said, “Yeah apparently this is folklore within the membership at Oakland Hills”. He then revealed that the bar bill for the US Team was $600.
However, that can be labeled as a pocket exchange compared to Team Europe’s bill. An intrigued Donald asked the European team’s bill, to which the member replied, “$30,000”. Being the captain of the team in the forthcoming event, Donald, with a grin on his face, added, “We like to have a good time”. He ended by comically saying, “No bud lights in our team room”.
A 5 figure bar bill is surprising for many. Moreover, after getting that drunk they went on to win the event too. Or perhaps the bill was totalled after their big 2004 win. Regardless, it will be exciting to see the unthinkable unfold next year when both teams finally face each once again.
