LPGA Stalwart Nelly Korda Ignores Tiger Woods Whilst Revealing Her Glorified Childhood Idols: ‘Hope People Can See That’

Nelly Korda is arguably one of the best women’s golfers in the world right now. She’s only 24 years old and has already piled up a huge list of accomplishments. With one major title and seven other wins on the LPGA Tour, she has made quite a name for herself. Furthermore, her resolve on the course and her motivation in the game is something all golf fans admire. Of course, she learned it at a young age by looking up to other GOATs who came before her. And the former world No. 1 recently revealed who they were. Surprisingly, Tiger Woods wasn’t one of them!

Nelly Korda spills the beans on her role models

Recently, the one-time major winner and her sister, Jessica Korda, sat down for an interview at the HSBC Women’s World Championship. There, opening up to the host about her childhood, Korda revealed the athletes she used to admire as a child. “I looked up to the drive of Nadal and the elegance of Federer,” she stated.

Korda’s parents were both professional tennis players, and her younger brother too is a tennis star, so it’s not too farfetched to see that she grew up inspired by the two greatest tennis players in the world. Moreover, the two dominated the sport for the longest time. It’s quite easy to see how that level of greatness can be inspiring!

The 8-time LPGA Tour winner explained that her parents too made sure they grew up with the values Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal had. “My mom loved Federer and Nadal, so I feel like the demeanor that they had, they kind of made sure that we had,” she explained. “That we were respecting everyone and, you know, appreciating everything that we have.”

Korda opens up about how those values affected her game

The LPGA Tour star claimed that those values that had been instilled in her through watching Nadal and Federer were what made her the best. “I feel like the way that we grew up, we just kind of brought it out here, and for us, it’s just like natural,” she stated, talking about both her and Jessica.

Nelly also added that the two sisters were hoping that their own demeanor could now inspire others to take up the sport. “We hope people can see that and they can adapt to that as well,” she said. “Maybe grow the game that way.”
