Augusta National Women’s Amateur 2024: Qualifying Criteria Broken Down

The 72 of the world’s best talent is ready to rumble at the 2024 Augusta National Women’s Amateur! The ANWA, which started in 2019, will be undergoing its fifth edition in Augusta. The field of ANWA has been one of the strongest, which makes it a highly decorated event and a championship that every amateur player of women’s golf would want in their portfolio.

For the 2024 edition, the women who can get their hands on the ANWA title are already determined. The 72 players’ field will be starting the competition on April 3rd. But how did the players qualify for the 2024 Augusta National Women’s Amateur?

The top 30 players from the USA to duke it out in Augusta

The Augusta National Women’s Amateur will be a three-day official event with a practice day squished in between before the final round on April 6th. To qualify for the prestigious championship, the players had 11 eligibility criteria through which they could add their names to the pool of 72. From 1 to 7, the criteria include winners of women’s major events (amateur/junior).

The winners given the berth in the field are from the preceding year (2023) of these events: 1) U.S. Women’s Amateur Champion, 2) Women’s Amateur Champion, 3) Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific Champion, 4) R&A Girls Amateur Champion, 5) U.S. Girls’ Junior Champion, 6) Girls Junior PGA Champion, and 7) NCAA Division I Women’s Individual Champion. Additionally, the winners of ANWA from the previous four editions were also eligible.

Category nine states that the top 30 golfers from the Women’s World Amateur Rankings (2023) in the United States, not already exempt by the previous criteria, will be eligible to play the ANWA. Moreover, the highest-ranked international golfers on the WWAR (2023), not otherwise exempt, and any special invitations sent by the ANWA Committee were qualified to join the field at Augusta.

These were the 11 ways through which the player’s field for the Augusta National Women’s Amateur was decided. The event will be starting in merely five days and the 72 players are ready for the 54-hole event. As it will be played for only three days, will it still have a cut?

To answer the question simply, yes, there will be a cut at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur. For the first two days, the 72 players will be playing at the Champions Retreat Golf Course at Augusta, After the two rounds, there will be a cut made for the top 30 and ties to proceed to the final round.

The final round on Saturday will be played on Augusta National Golf Course and one will be announced as winner.
