The 2023 Australian PGA Championship has recently come to an end. The highlights of the event have been trending all over the golf world. As the event ended, one crucial detail seemed to have caught the golf world’s attention. Interestingly enough, the event winners’ history seems to not be on the United States of America’s side.
The history of the renowned Australian PGA Championship is proof that it is a tough conquer for the American players. A curious search through the records of past winners reveals that the famous competition has seen very few American players win the game throughout the years. As a matter of fact, only one American has won the Australian PGA Championship during the last decade.
The one lucky American golfer who was able to do so was the LIV golfer, Harold Varner III. He achieved this remarkable feat around 7 years ago in 2016. The same year Andrew Dodt, the Australian professional finished as the runner-up of the event. Additionally, the American professional golfer, Johannes Veerman, tied for 10th at the famous Championship in 2019. However, after Varner’s glorious win no American has been able to decode the Australian PGA Championship’s secret to success.

Sadly, adding to the list of disappointments, not even one American golfer has won the championship in the past five years. The first American golfer to host the country’s flag high at the tournament before Harold Varner III was Hale Irwin, long back in 1978. These pages of history are proof that the Australian PGA Championship has been a tricky one for the Americans to rule the victory in their favor.
One may even say that American professional golfers mostly have a hard time on Australian soil. This year’s leaderboard has also revealed the Australian PGA Championship is a tough nut to crack for the American pros.
