The Champions Dinner at Augusta National is undoubtedly one of the most exclusive sports dinners. Golf talents from different eras share a dining table with one thing in common, the Green Jacket. Here’s a throwback to the Champions Dinner of the 2020 Masters, where Tiger Woods gave a heartwarming speech disclosed by PGA Tour Champions player Bernhard Langer.
Woods defied the odds after claiming his 15th Major title at the 2019 Masters. It was Tiger’s first major victory in 11 years. Nonetheless, the winner of The Masters then hosts Champions Dinner at Augusta National, which is held on the eve of the next year’s Masters. Before the 2019 Masters win, Tiger struggled a lot with his professional form. After claiming the victory at Augusta National, Woods got emotional as his kids too were old enough this time around to see him lift a Major trophy. The emotions carried on with the 15-time Major winner a year later at the Champions Dinner.
“Tiger gave a speech that was very emotional”, said Bernhard Langer, who was in attendance deeming his two Masters triumphs in 1985 and 1986. The German golfer added, “He thanked many of us for helping him over the years and he talked about how it was very emotional for him to win here last year because he didn’t know if it would ever happen again”.

Langer further talked about how Woods was happy that his kids finally witnessed him winning a Major. He said, “His kids were there in 2019 and he said that giving them a hug when he won reminded him of how Tiger used to give his own parents a hug when he won before. It was a great speech.”
Apart from praising the Tiger’s speech, Langer also believed the 15-time Major winner had a lot more to offer to the sport of golf. Let’s take a look at what the German golfer said.
Langer believes Tiger is immortal
After praising his speech, Bernhard Langer then spoke on how Woods should not retire yet. He said, “Tiger has a very competitive edge to his nature and he is going to try to play for a few years yet, if his body holds up”.

Langer further added, “When you see him you think he is the immortal athlete”. Whether Woods has made a call to quit professional golf is still a question of doubt. However, with his recent involvement in the Golf league, TGL, which will commence in 2024, we may see Tiger a lot more in the sport.
As far as his 2019 victory at Augusta National is concerned, it will truly be remembered as one of Tiger’s greatest wins. Nonetheless, Langer too has achieved a lot since the 2020 Champions Dinner, as at the age of 65, he became the oldest golfer to win a PGA Tour-sanctioned event after claiming the TimberTech Championship this past week. After all, it’s known as the Champions Dinner for a reason.
