Coming into the Presidents Cup, Woods was looking in great shape to ensure a win for Team USA. However, his team captain, Fred Couples, decided to sit him for the final day; or at least that’s how he pranked him.
Tiger Woods gets pranked by Fred Couples
As per the guidelines, on the eve of the event, the captains of both Team USA as well as Team International are asked to put a name in an envelope of a golfer who won’t play in Sunday singles should the other team need to sit someone out due to injury. Evidently enough, most people would consider Tiger Woods the last person to be chosen to sit on the final day. However, Fred Couples decided to take this opportunity to prank the 46-year-old.

When Carman offered Couples the envelope, the American captain said, “Why don’t you open it up in front of everyone and read the name in there”. Steve Carman reads the name inside the envelope and as it turned out, it was Tiger Woods’. The name of the 15-time Major winner inside the envelope led to silence in the room. Fred Couples later shared that he unhooked the envelope and replaced the original name with Tiger.
Couples also mentioned that he didn’t share the story behind the prank for the next two years. Moreover, Woods had texted Couples, “Dude you got the biggest b*lls of anyone I’ve ever seen”, following the prank. The 1992 Masters winner also shared that he had received heat for putting Tiger Woods’ name in the envelope as he kept it as a secret for the next few years.
