Undoubtedly, the world of sports is gigantic. Over the years, fans have seen several stars embrace a sport and make a living out of it. And when it comes to becoming a billionaire as an athlete, not many hold the stature, unless you are Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods or LeBron James. However, we go back to 2015, when a then-40-year-old Tiger surpassed LeBron and his golf arch-rival. Phil Mickelson in a Forbes list.

Tiger Woods is very much familiar with finding his name in a Forbes list. For several years, Woods has been listed in the top 10 earners in the world of sports. However, when his infamous allegations back in 2009 were made public, the golfer’s professional life took a hit.

Woods struggled on the course and, hence, started the drought of a Major win. But that didn’t stop the 15-time Major winner from finishing above his frenemy, Mickelson, and Lakers star, LeBron James.

Nonetheless, in the Forbes 2015 list of most valuable athletes, Tiger Woods still finished above all other athletes in the world of sport. He was valued at $30 million, thanks to his endorsement deal with Nike. Just below Tiger at 2nd place was his long-time rival, Phil Mickelson.

Lefty was valued at $28 million after having a comparatively better season than Woods back in 2015. LeBron James, who had returned to his home state team Cleveland Cavaliers, was placed in the third position tied to Tennis legend, Roger Federer. Both sporting icons were valued at $27 million.

All four legends have only a few million separating each other. But they all shared one thing in common, a drop in their value from the previous year. Moreover, they all also share the similarity of contributing to the sporting world.

Are Tiger, LeBron, Phil, and Roger still on the Forbes List?

Now, 7 years later, all these legends still continue to find their names on a Forbes List. Though it may not be the most valuable list, instead in the highest earning athletes. Phil Mickelson was ranked as the highest-earning golfer of 2022, thanks to his deal with the Saudi backed LIV Golf.

He earned $90.7 million in 2022.

LeBron James finished 2022 as the 2nd highest-paid athlete with an amount of $ 121.2 million. He also joined the Billion Dollar Club along with the golfing legend, Tiger Woods, who still mints his earnings through endorsement deals and his winnings on the course which expand over 26 years.
