Rory McIlroy was also called a journeyman

The current Open champion, Rory McIlroy, will tee off at the Tour Championship, the last leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs, on Thursday in his home state, Atlanta. He is four under, six strokes behind the World No.1 and leader Scottie Scheffler. The race is for $75,000,000, and everybody will put in their best effort.

In his recent interview in Atlanta, the onetime major champion admitted being behind an incredible player, Scheffler. Hence, he is counting on playing his best golf to mount a chance at the crowning event. However, the highlight of the interview was not his game but a follow-up to his earlier comments about Lucas Glover.

The reporter referenced the anger Brian Harman expressed when Glover was labeled a journeyman. What would have been Rory McIlroy’s reaction, had he been called that?

“The journeyman term to me, the connotation is always negative. It always implies a guy that’s bounced back and forth, losing his card. So I just don’t like throwing that term around to a guy especially as talented as Lucas. I would have taken offense to it if it was about me as well,” Rory McIlroy said.

How did Harman feel when he did not make the teams?

Another instance where Harman dived deep into details about his feelings whenever he failed to make it to a team. The reporters asked him to recall who had called him to tell him he would not be playing on the upcoming tours.

Harman candidly named captains Jim Furyk and Steve Stricker. The former called him to inform him about a tour in Paris that he was not a part of. Similarly, the latter once told him about his elimination from the President’s Cup team.

In a humbling moment, the major champion also stated that he never felt he deserved the spot whenever he made the team. However, now he is determined to repeat history at the Tour Championship. Last year, Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler were close competitors. And McIlroy stormed off, winning the championship.
