On Sunday, Viktor Hovland fired a stunning 61 to win his fifth PGA Tour title. He birdied seven out of the last nine holes and overhauled the world no. 1 Scottie Scheffler. The latter led the pack when the game started in a tie with the former US Open winner Matt Fitzpatrick.

After the conclusion of the fourth round, Fitzpatrick came up with a hilarious comment which shows his admiration for Hovland and his record-breaking feat. “Yeah, I played great. I can’t do anything about a 61. I did just see Viktor – I called him a little s***.”

He seemed in pretty good spirits. A laughing sound also followed the comment, and his smile said the same. Matt Fitzpatrick appeared to be content with his performance and given that he carded 66-67-66-66 over the four days of the tournament, he deserves to have a laugh.

Before entering the tournament on Sunday, Hovland was hovering on 8-under. And it seemed unlikely he would come from behind to win the title. The top three contenders in contention were Matt Fitzpatrick, Scottie Scheffler, and Max Homa.

However, Fitzpatrick and Scheffler finished two shots behind Hovland at -15, tying for the second spot. And Homa finished in tied fifth. Some days, one has to tip their hat to the opposition, and a whopping 61 deserves that.

Scottie Scheffler came so close but…

Viktor broke Homa’s course record of 62 (set on Friday) and carded a nine-under 61. His victory was nothing short of a dramatic conclusion to the championship, and he gets to take home $3.6 Millon. He overturned a three-stroke deficit.

It could have been Scheffler’s game. He birdied six out of the first thirteen holes. But he failed to birdie the par-5 15th before missing a six-foot birdie putt on hole 16. And then to make it worse came a three-putt bogey on hole 17. Scheffler told the PGA Tour that he did his best on Sunday. He called Viktor’s game fantastic and considered that he fought a lot.
