Rory McIlroy is one of the most prominent entities in the golfing world. Apart from his glorious performance with the clubs, he is also known for his strong point of view. A glimpse of which has been visible ever since the coming up of the Saudi-backed league. A loyalist of the PGA Tour, McIlroy, has been among the front runners in condemning the LIV Tour and its players. However, his rage against LIV Golf seems to have backfired at him.

Following a win at the Tour Championship, McIlroy is currently playing the BMW PGA Championship. A DP World Tour tournament, which has been in light of its controversial decision of giving competing allowance to LIV golfers. Currently at T20, McIlroy today hit a bizarre shot at the Wentworth Club, opening doors to reactions from the golfing world.

Looking to replicate his Tour Championship performance at the BMW PGA Championship, McIlroy kicked off his campaign with an impressive Tee Shot, landing the ball in a rough. With the ball surrounded with heavy grass, the former World No. 1 took an approach shot out of the rough. However, little did he know that his shot would become the talk of the town.

Despite playing the shot in inch perfect position, the 4-time major champion bizarrely missed the shot. Running through a mixed bag of emotions, he opted to cover it up with a slight smile.

Even though he made an attempt to cover up his emotions with a smile, it clearly wasn’t enough to stop opening the doors to opinions of the golf world. Getting his rage against LIV Golf into picture, numerous fans took to their Twitter handles, and called out McIlroy for his shot.

“The pressure of playing against the LIV guys is getting to him I see,” a Twitter user wrote. 

While a large section of the golf world called out the 2-time PGA Player of the Year for his shot, another section came out in his defense. Numerous McIlroy fans put up positive messages, giving their all to protect the American star from getting bashed on:

While fans continue their Twitter banter, McIlroy on the other hand hopes to replicate his Tour Championship performance and cover up his shot with an impressive run forward. Starting today, the BMW PGA Championship is set to wrap up on the 11th of September.
