During the prime years of his career, Tiger Woods had many people supporting him day and night. He was surrounded by a loving family and a professional team that included his long-term caddie, Steve Williams. But in 2009, things started spiraling downward for the 15-time major winner. His personal life and marriage took a massive hit, which left him crippled on the course too. And unfortunately, he wasn’t the only one affected by the scandal. His team suffered a massive blow as well, and perhaps Williams was dealt the worst hand of them all!

But was that fair to the 15-time major champion’s then-caddie? His former caddie’s wife, Kirsty Williams, does not think so. After all, she did say that Elin Nordegren, Woods’ ex-wife, was certain that “Steve was the kind of guy who would have told Elin about his cheating, had he known.”

In his book, originally published eight years ago, ‘Out of the Rough,’ Kirsty, the caddie’s wife, shared how it impacted her family. On page number 196 of the book, she said that a lot of people’s anger was directed toward her husband as well.

People were also blaming him for what had happened. “A lot of people thought he was doing it too and that he and Tiger were going out together.” Sharing how the difficult time did not shake her bond with her husband, she said, “I never doubted Steve.”

Kirsty also spoke about the kind of trust Wood’s ex-wife, Elin Nordegren, had in Steve Williams. She said that the Swedish model also never doubted the caddie and believed that if he had known about the cheating, he would have informed her. “Both Elin and I understood that Tiger knew very well that Steve was the kind of guy who would have told Elin about his cheating, had he known.”

She also mentioned that she requested the golfer to clear Williams’ name but he could not do that because it could entice the media to ask more questions. To Kirsty’s request, Woods replied, “The media would start asking if anyone else knew, and they did, so basically he was covering their butts and letting Steve suffer.”

The grave impact Woods’ scandal had on Williams and his family

The golfer was not the only individual who was affected by the whole scandal; his team and the people who were working with him were also highly affected. In his memoir, Williams mentioned that the time when the news broke out was an extremely difficult period for him and his family.

His son would come home and ask, “Why do people say you’re bad?” He had asked Woods’ team to release a statement that would clear his name, but it did not happen.

Williams has shared a lot more information about his 12-year-long relationship with the golf GOAT, Tiger Woods. All in all, it is safe to say that the scandal affected his teams’ lives more than anyone knew of. And that led to the loss of trust and chaos.
