Santos Saul Alvarez, or Canelo Alvarez, as the world knows him, shares an immense passion for golf, as many may know. The reigning super middleweight boxing champion’s love for the eighteen holes far exceeds simple appreciations over interviews. The 33-year-old boxer has been spotted teeing off and playing in tournaments as well.

Ahead of his high-octane clash with Jermell Charlo, Alvarez appeared on the Full Send Podcast. The candid discussion about the myriad interests of the boxer naturally veered off towards golf. Being an avid golfer himself, the Mexican boxer revealed his dream playing partners in a hypothetical foursome match.

Canelo Alvarez, despite his love for Tiger Woods, is a practical man

The Mexican boxer was asked who he would choose for a foursome match. To which Alvarez promptly replied: Tiger Woods, Jon Rahm, and Rory McIlroy. Notably, two of them, Rahm and McIlroy, are currently playing at Marco Simone at this year’s Ryder Cup.

In response to his answer, the interviewer suggested that his request may not be too far off, as the trio could possibly be down for that. However, Cancelo appeared to be more practical. “Maybe, Tiger No,” he stated.

Woods was last seen on the Mission Inn Resort golf course, caddying for his son. Battling with his injured foot, the 15x Major winner has long been absent from the greens. And clearly, the Mexican star also has in mind the golf legend’s injury-laden year, which has rendered him unable to play for the majority of 2023.

As for the boxing legend, this was not the first time he professed his love for golf and Tiger Woods. Earlier, in an interview, talking about following the 82-time PGA Tour winner, he revealed: “All the time, all the time. Since 1997, when he won his first Masters, I see him, and I follow Tiger.

The Mexican boxer is an avid golfer

In an interview with TalkSport after his press conference, he shared his plans after retirement. Yes, he intends to take up golf more seriously once he is done throwing blistering punches inside the ring. Earlier, too, he hinted at starting as a golfer after hanging up his gloves.

From the Guadalajara native’s golf performances, it seems he can very well consider this his side hustle, should he choose to. Last year too, he put up an excellent show in the ‘Icon’ Series alongside legendary soccer coach Pep Guardiola, Olympic gold medalist swimmer Michael Phelps, and soccer star Harry Kane.
