Brandel Chamblee has never been shy about criticizing LIV Golf. In a recent interview with Trey Wingo, the broadcaster called it “such a poor product” and said, “All LIV Golf did was buy a moment in time.” Now, following a strange rumor about his NBC future, Chamblee is speaking out again.

According to a source on X, Chamblee was allegedly going to be removed from NBC because “NBC is fed up with him.” The same source quoted an executive saying, “No one cares about him anymore, and to be honest, I don’t think anyone ever did,” adding that he brings nothing but “bad social media press and negativity.” Chamblee fired back on X, targeting LIV Golf itself rather than NBC.

“They [LIV] are bots…can’t even use AI to its advantage. Hence the failed idea of paying tens of/hundreds of millions for golf’s anemic past betting they can pave the way for golf’s future,” he wrote.

His comments reflect deeper issues. According to LIV’s 46-page financial filing, the league’s international operations reportedly lost nearly $500 million in 2024, following $396 million in losses in 2023 and $244 million in launch costs in 2022, totaling over $1 billion in accumulated losses.

Attempts to tighten expenses and control revenue have yielded little improvement. The league has now shifted strategies, no longer paying players hundreds of millions to stay, as it did with Jon Rahm. Chamblee has noticed these problems for months.

He previously criticized LIV’s most prominent face, Bryson DeChambeau. “You’re not going to tell me he moves the needle [in viewership],” Chamblee said. “LIV doesn’t have these so-called draws, but nobody’s watching the product. LIV does not matter.”

This confirms that Chamblee is here to stay and that he’s an unstoppable force in sports commentary. Another telling sign? The quiet but unmistakable admiration he commands from his colleagues.

Brandel Chamblee called the “greatest desk analyst in history”

Last month, in an interview with Andrew Gruttadaro of The Ringer, Rich Lerner didn’t hold back praising his colleague Brandel Chamblee. “I don’t say this lightly: I think there’s a case to be made he is the greatest desk analyst in the history of sports,” Lerner said, emphasizing a career built on influence and conviction.

Over the past two decades, Chamblee has consistently shaped golf conversation. He is known for his intense preparation and his willingness to challenge the game’s biggest names. He has labeled Phil Mickelson’s opinions as “idiotic” and critiqued Tiger Woods for mistakes during his peak, proving he is unafraid to stir debate.

Lerner, the longtime host of Golf Channel’s Golf Central and Live From studio programs, added, “He is the most provocative thinker we have now that Johnny [Miller] has retired,” noting that Chamblee is also “generous on set” and speaks out when he feels strongly about an issue.

In golf, being right isn’t everything. Conviction matters just as much. Chamblee brings that conviction in spades. He may not always be 100 percent correct, but his insight and tenacity make viewers and colleagues alike sit up and take notice.

That combination of knowledge, fearlessness, and personality is what makes him impossible to ignore. As Lerner concluded, it’s exactly what cements Chamblee’s place as a cornerstone of NBC’s golf coverage for years to come.
