The PGA Tour is currently in Arizona for the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Looking at the tour’s extensive schedule, the Phoenix Open is one of the most popular events of the year. Having said that, Brooks Koepka, who is playing at TPC Scottsdale, also appreciated the unique ambiance created at the venue.

While many events showcase a high level of golf, not all crowds can be fun to play in front of. However, the crowd in Arizona seems to fall in the fun category, giving the WM Phoenix Open a good mix of chaotic and enthusiastic vibe.

During an interview, Koepka was asked about other events on the Tour that are similar to the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Naming a personal favorite that he believes has the same energy as Phoenix, Koepka explained his pick.

“A major in New York,” Koepka said. He admitted that it was specific, but only because of the fans out there. “They’re loud, they’re on your side when you’re doing well, and then when you screw up, man, they’re going to let you know what’s up.”

Having turned professional back in 2012, Koepka has seen both the good and the bad. The eight-time PGA Tour winner mentioned the Bethpage State Park Golf Course in NY, where people got back at him pretty good for messing up the back nine’s first six holes. In response to his performance, the crowd kept chanting Dustin Johnson’s name for around three to four minutes till he made it to the next tee box from the green.

Does the crowd help Koepka play better?

In the end, it seems to help reset the mental space he is in. “It resets me,” Koepka reveals. “It makes me focus in a little bit harder, I think, because I don’t want to hear it.”

Of course, he added that no one really wants to hear the boos.

Apart from the ongoing Phoenix Open, Koepka last played the Farmers Insurance Open (CUT).
