Bryson DeChambeau is one of those names that has left a sinking feeling in the hearts of PGA Tour fans. From starting the year as the 8th best-ranked prospect to the 22nd at the time of speaking, it hasn’t been a great year, to say the least.

He had even dropped out of the PGA Championship, where his return was anticipated. However, after a practice round, it just wasn’t meant to be.
Now, after staying away from the course for what feels like forever, Bryson has committed himself to the Memorial Tournament, as revealed by the competition’s official Twitter account.

Bryson DeChambeau’s surgery and recovery
Bryson has been in recovery ever since the Masters, where he failed to make the cut in the first Major of the year. After this point, he elected to undergo surgery on his left wrist to help heal a fractured hook of the hamate bone.
This move has gone on to cost golf fans a lot of much-needed competition on the course when you consider that Bryson DeChambeau, in any tournament, ends up being the wildcard that could easily trump the natural order of the leaderboard; and that’s why we miss him, too.

However, if the past shows us anything, it is that no athlete should ever rush the healing process. The patience to walk the road to recovery and the ability to be able to maintain their body at its peak fitness are all in a day’s work for a professional athlete who’s at the top of his/her game.
Tiger Woods‘ withdrawal from the PGA Championship after the third round rings to the same tune. The drive to win? Essential. But the willingness to keep doing it for as long as physicality allows? Even more so. Bryson had gone on to mention in a tweet “I want to make a full return when I am 100% ready to compete at golf’s highest level.”

A glimmer of hope?
That being said, we’re especially excited to see this latest video surface on Bryson’s Twitter as well. Here’s to hoping that it’s very much a step in the right direction on the road to recovery.
