Tiger Woods. established himself as one of a kind, not just through his skills, but also through his mindset and personality. This left a generation of golfers inspired. Of those, Bryson DeChambeau is one of them, who considers having similar traits to the GOAT. The LIV golfer, known for his aggressive style, shows the most obvious connection to Woods. But there’s something else they share, which DeChambeau opened up about in a recent video.
Recently, during an episode of “Break 50” with Jason Kidd, a renowned former basketball player and now a coach, he shared about the similarity. After hitting a shot that strayed far from the hole, Kidd pointed out how much the environment can affect play. DeChambeau, though, saw it differently. For him, it was simply a chance to learn.
“Nothing you can really do besides be more prepared next time. Like, go play the golf course before and get used to it,” he said. Bryson has learned to let go when things don’t go as planned. For example, even after tough losses this year—like finishing runner-up at the PGA Championship—he stayed calm. He also bounced back from missing the cut at the U.S. Open with a T10 finish at The Open.

DeChambeau went on to explain his mindset further. “And it’s funny, you know, I developed it really early on. Like I’d get super mad, but I had to realize, okay, I got to execute the next shot. Much like Tiger… he would always talk about how he got really mad. And he gave himself like 10 to 15 seconds to just get as mad as he wanted to. And then after that, okay, on to the next. It’s over.”

The best example of that is his performance in the 2020 Masters fourth round, where on the 12th hole, a par-3, Woods took 10 shots. Yes, 10 shots on a par-3. But later, maintaining a steady composure, he shot 5 birdies in the last 6 holes, making a strong comeback. Not just DeChambeau, but Steve Williams, the former caddie of Tiger Woods during the Talk Birdie To Me, shared the same praise. He said, “Tiger could shake it off straight away.”

Well, for DeChambeau, it has been a similar case as witnessed during the 2024 US Open, where he was falling behind Rory McIlroy with his bogeys on the 12th and 15th holes in the final round. The golfer kept his composure and carded a par putt on the last three. While McIlroy, despite the lead, tumbled and recorded three bogeys in the last four holes, handing over the win to DeChambeau.
The similarity has helped him become one of the most regarded golfers. He even earned praise from the GOAT for that in the past.
