Scottie Scheffler was dominating across the weekend at Quail Hollow, en route to his third major title and first PGA Championship victory. He entered day 4 with a resounding three-stroke lead and, despite initial hiccups, finished strong to clinch the Wanamaker Trophy by five strokes over Bryson DeChambeau, Harris English, and Davis Riley, all of whom finished 6 under par at T2. This called for congratulatory messages and hugs. He got plenty. Messages from his fans, hugs from his family, and one hug was from a fellow golfer, an unexpected one, if we might add.

Post his victory, as Scheffler took his victory walk, one person was waiting on the sidelines to congratulate him. That was none other than Bryson DeChambeau. The LIV Golf pro, after his heartbreak, made sure to show his appreciation for the guy who bested him. “Great job, proud of you,” DeChambeau said to Scheffler as the two exchanged a quick hug. This isn’t the first time Bryson has shown pure class on the course after losing. Last year, too, when he lost the Wanamaker by 1 stroke, he waited for Schauffele to finish his game and shake his hand.

Scottie and Bryson played a friendly The Match against each other a while ago with the former one. Anyways, DeChambeau isn’t the only LIV golfer who congratulated the winner. Phil Mickelson did too, on X, agreeing with Scottie’s status of being the world’s apex player.

“Today and this week I really just feel like I did such a good job of staying patient when I wasn’t swinging my best, but I hit the shots when I needed to,” Scheffler said of his game. Patience was indeed the key. The Dallas native did not start particularly strong, registering scores of 2 under par and 3 under par across the first two days. What changed the momentum was the thrilling 5-hole stretch to end day 3. Scheffler registered 5 under par in those five holes to end day 3 comfortably on top before closing the deal on day 4.

Fans loved seeing the duo exchange niceties. Many believed that DeChambeau’s strong showing in the majors coupled with Scheffler’s consistency on the PGA Tour could help Team USA put together a lethal combination in the upcoming Ryder Cup in New York.

Fans react to DeChambeau’s gesture to Scottie Scheffler

The fans were very appreciative of the gesture shown by DeChambeau, even after a tough loss at the hands of his competitor. “Bryson = Pure Class.” One fan tweeted after seeing the duo hug it out after a thrilling four days of competition at Quail Hollow. Not the first time fans have called DeChambeau pure class for being nice. He has often intertacted with fans after tough days to make it happy for them.

What’s your perspective on:

Could Scheffler and DeChambeau be the dream team to bring the Ryder Cup back to the USA?

Have an interesting take?

“This pairing would be as intimidating as it gets from the USA side. Best driver in the game and best player in the world.” Another user explained. In the recently finished PGA Championship, Scheffler displayed the best overall game. He was 1st in total strokes gained, eighth in strokes gained off the drive and on the irons, and fifth in strokes gained around the green. On the other hand, DeChambeau lived up to his reputation, gaining the most strokes off the tee, thanks to his powerful drive. This would be a useful weapon for Team USA, especially during the alternate format.

“Would love to see this duo in the Ryder Cup,” explained one more enthusiastic golf fan. Team USA fans are looking forward to the Bethpage action. Some of the most in-form golfers are Americans right now, and they are eager to get their revenge for what happened in Rome two years ago.

Before the PGA Championship, DeChambeau was in 5th place in the Official Ryder Cup rankings for the 2025 event. The top 6 qualify directly. He is likely to move up after his T2 performance at Quail Hollow, but the knock on that is, unlike the PGA Tour pros, DeChambeau can only earn points during majors, while the others can earn points from regular PGA Tour events as well. This does put him at a disadvantage, but his strong showing at majors will likely help him keep the spot. “Bryson will be on the US Ryder Cup team for sure. He’s a good golfer, and it will be well deserved.” One fan made a plea.

Other LIV golfers will likely find it tougher. Patrick Reed is 25th on the list, while Bubba Watson is 81st. 5-time Major winner Brooks Koepka is 91st. DeChambeau is likely to be the only LIV golfer to make the team unless Keegan Bradley feels that one of these golfers can change the game for Team USA. He can then use one of his six exemptions to select them. However, DeChambeau will not likely need the exemption to be selected. “DeChambeau should be. I can’t say for any other US LIV golfer right now.” Another user tweeted.

What do you think of Team USA’s one-two punch in Scheffler and DeChambeau? Can the duo return the title to the USA?
