When many golfers left the PGA Tour in 2022, scrutiny followed them. The fans were unhappy because golfers chose money over legacy and joined the LIV Golf circuit. They were called a sell-out to choose money, even though they said having more time in hand was the reason for the switch. Undoubtedly, speculations followed, but not anymore.

The new member of the Saudi-backed circuit, Bubba Watson, has spilled the beans about the real reason why he joined LIV Golf. When the LIV defectors were asked why they left the PGA Tour, their usual response was to spend more time with their families. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.

The Saudi-backed circuit follows the game of 54 holes only. Therefore, there are more breaks, and since it’s a team-based championship, the responsibility is not on any individual. Money was, of course, the reason, but no one admitted it. However, with time, people change, and so do their values. Watson has proved it.

On March 16, the new team of LIV Golf, Range Goats GC, attended a press conference. Watson’s team members accompanied the former PGA Tour pro. The two-time major championship winner said, “Our team has been fun. Other teams want to play, they want to get in the vibe, they want to get the team going.” LIV defectors are loving the team vibes. However, he revealed the reason and said, “That’s what this is all about. We all jumped ship because we want to play on a team.”

The LIV Golf officials mentioned earlier that the rebranded LIV Golf League and season 2023 are all about team spirit and building. And the former number two golfer has proven this with his words.

Everyone ranted previously that joining the Saudi-backed circuit was an important career decision. But now, as stated by the pro, playing in teams is what enticed them.

What other reasons did they give earlier for leaving the PGA Tour?

Bryson DeChambeau signed the LIV Golf deal for a whopping $125 million. But he said the money was not why he played golf or shifted to the rival Tour. He said, “I play golf to execute that shot, the beautiful shot that everybody adores. That’s why I think we all play golf.”

Whereas Brooks Koepka joined LIV Golf to get more breaks and be with family. He said, “having a little more breaks, a little more time at home to make sure I’m 100 percent before I go play in an event and don’t feel like I’m forced to play right away. That was a big thing for me.”

But now we all know what the reason was other than money.
