‘Burned It All Down…’: Phil Mickelson’s Father, Who Is Man of ‘No Words’ Once Taught a Harsh Lesson to the Lefty and His Sister

Phil Mickelson has been involved in numerous controversies throughout his career. But other than his squabbles on and off the field, the golfer is known for his witty sense of humor. However, his father on the other hand, who was in the US Navy, was very strict as a person. And Mickelson once opened up about an incident with his old man that taught him a valuable lesson for life.

Phil Mickelson has had an incredibly successful career as a golfer. But behind every successful man, is his family who provides him with everything he requires to reach that level. However, in Mickelson’s case, his father played an essential role in teaching him to do the right things in life.

And there was a time when Lefty, sitting with his father on ‘Phireside with Phil’, unveiled a special story. It was about the time when his father did something that taught Mickelson the most valuable lesson of his life.

Mickelson and his sister once received a ruthless punishment from his father, who he referred to as “a man of very few words”. The golfer wanted his father to share the story, however, he decided to speak about it himself.

Like every other kid, Mickelson and his sister Tina were craving candies during Halloween and went out to collect some from the neighborhood. But their stern father knew what wasn’t right for his kids. After the siblings came back home, they wanted some of their candy. But their dad denied it as it was too close to dinner time.

But Mickelson, being the mischievous kid he was, was unstoppable. And as it turned out, the fact that their father said no to eating was not enough to resist them. The two decided to take control of their situation and went on to the bedroom closet to steal some candy. However, the military man with all his instincts took no time to catch the two red-handed. Or as one might describe the scene, he caught them with their mouths full of candy.

But what did he do next? “My dad came up and knew exactly what we were doing, caught us and took all the candy, and burned it right here in this fireplace,” Mickelson said sitting next to the same fireplace. Quite a lesson, isn’t it? But what Mickelson learned from the incident was hilarious.

He said, “The moral of the story… is sometimes the people smallest in stature are the ones you wanna mess with the least.” What else do you expect from Mickelson other than timed comedy? But it was definitely a story worth listening to.
