It is common knowledge that Donald Trump is one of the biggest golf enthusiasts out there. The love he harbors for the sport is rare to find. And his attempts to bring the major championships to his courses only speak volumes about his adoration for the sport. But he has always suffered disappointment in that department.

The R&A re-shatters the dream of Donald Trump

Besides being a very successful businessman, Donald Trump is also known for his sheer love and devotion to golf. And his attempts to bring
the major tournaments to at least one of his golf courses have been unfruitful time and again. Despite his best attempts, he suffered a massive setback earlier this year when the R&A refused to grant him a permit to hold the Open Championship at his Turnberry Golf course in Scotland. And today at a special press conference held for the 151st Open Championship, The R & A once again emphasized strictly the fact that as long as Turnberry is owned by Trump, the British Open will never be held there.

When a media person made a query about the possibility of the Open returning to Turnberry, the CEO of The R&A, Martin Slumbers gave a very straightforward answer. He said “We’ve been very clear. I made an announcement in January 2021 about Turnberry. We can pass that to you. The essential statement that we made then was that until we’re confident that any coverage at Turnberry would be about golf, about the golf course, and about the championship until we’re confident about that, we will not return any of our championships there.”

This definitely is a reiteration of the blow that Trump has received earlier from the organization and is seeking relief with LIV Golf.

Trump finds happiness with LIV Golf among issues with PGA Tour

The ex-POTUS has been a big supporter of the Saudi-backed league since 2021. He has lent his golf courses for multiple LIV events, with three events for this year only. The recently concluded Washington DC event was a big hit and even the business tycoon himself participated in the Pro-Am. Other upcoming events are at Trump’s Bedminster course and Trump Doral in Miami. As for Turnberry, it hasn’t hosted an Open since 2009, when Stewart Cink famously defeated Tom Watson in a playoff.

And by Martin Slumber’s statement, it is evident that R&A’s stance on Turnberry hosting The Open, remains unchanged. This will be a big dream crusher for the ex-President of the United States. Will Trump respond to this blow? Let us know in the comments below.
