In sports, it’s not uncommon for athletes to admire and even dabble in disciplines outside their own. Take, for instance, basketball legend Michael Jordan’s well-known affinity for golf or tennis star Rafael Nadal’s ventures into football. These cross-sport exchanges frequently result in mutual respect and memorable moments. The WNBA star Caitlin Clark recently joined the roster of athletes investigating new arenas.

Known for her exceptional basketball skills, Clark has always loved playing golf. This fervor brought her into a pleasant meeting with two-time Masters champion and LIV Golf League star Bubba Watson. A touching exchange between two athletes from different worlds was filmed during their encounter and posted on Instagram by LIV Golf.

Caitlin Clark receives a special present from a golf legend

Caitlin Clark had the chance to meet Bubba Watson prior to her game at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse, which appeared to be an incredible experience for her. As a special present for Clark, Watson, who has won 12 times on the PGA Tour and currently plays for LIV Golf, gave the basketball phenom a custom driver. The exchange was posted on LIV Golf’s official Instagram account, with multiple clips showcasing their mutual admiration and communication. Clearly in a cheerful mood, Watson is seen approaching the well-known basketball player in one clip and saying, “I brought you a driver to sign for you. It’s one of mine, so I brought it.”  Clark asked him, “First WNBA game?” with delight. Watson emphasized that this is not his first game because his wife was a successful team member and played basketball professionally. Visibly thrilled, Clark responds, “No way. Lefty?” to which Watson confirms, “Yeah, so if you ever, I know you wanted your trophy.” Clark enthusiastically guses over the pink club and the pink rangegoats gc hoodie of Watson and says, ” I love the pink that you rock too. I was at the Masters, I was following you.” Watson, surprised, says, “I know, I never saw you. I’ll give it to you. You don’t want it right now, but I’ll give it to you.”

The exchange continues with Clark suggesting they take a picture together. “No, let’s take a picture, come on. Can I grab one?” she asks. Watson agrees, “Yeah, sure. Good for you. Where are we looking? There’s a lot of cameras. Everybody, here we go.” Clark adds, “And one for me, just so I can put it in my house. I’m going to have to order my lefty swing.” Watson offers, “Well, I can get you a righty too.” Clark concludes, “No, I like it. I just have to. There’s not many lefty golfers. But yeah, well I’ll get somebody to take it back for you.”

Her appreciation of Watson and golf in general raises the possibility that we will see Clark on the course more often in the future. But while Watson made headlines for charming gestures, his recent comments on LIV Golf have stirred quite the controversy.

Watson acknowledged accepting appearance fees while playing on the PGA Tour, which is technically against the rules of the tour and added gasoline to the fire. He said, “It makes me laugh because on the PGA Tour, I got paid behind closed doors to show up at tournaments, many tournaments.” As a result of this revelation, Watson and the PGA Tour are now under more scrutiny.

In addition to receiving backlash from supporters and other players, the golfer’s remarks have rekindled discussions on the morality and openness of the organizations that oversee professional golf. As the sport develops, people like Watson continue to be at the center of conversations about where it should go. Caitlin Clark’s amusing meeting with Bubba Watson provides an intriguing look at the respect athletes from other sports have for one another. Despite Watson’s difficulties and issues in the golf community, such occasions serve as a reminder of the true connections and unifying force that sports can create.
