Getting hate after turning pro is a fate no golfer can escape. Whether you win or lose the tournament, criticism seems to follow. The biggest example of it was seen at the 2024 U.S. Open. Even after claiming his second major title with a thrilling one-stroke victory over Rory McIlroy, some people weren’t too pleased about Bryson DeChambeau’s success. Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee attributed DeChambeau’s win to “good fortune,” and McIlroy, well, we all know what happened to him after the heartbreak.
It seems the same is happening with a Korn Ferry Tour pro, but the thing is, we’re not sure who the golfer is. In a disturbing display of online hate, Claire Rogers revealed a vile DM her close friend and a Korn Ferry Tour pro received after his T-10 finish on the PGA Riviera Maya. The message read: “Listen here you bible basher. About about you spend less time on your knees to god and more time on the range. Cost me a lot of money today because you were probably too busy *CENSORED* god off. Hope you never get your tour card.” The intensity of the hate is palpable, with the sender’s profane language revealing a toxic level of anger and resentment.
Now, we say we don’t know who the golfer is because Rogers didn’t reveal any name in her post as she simply wrote, “The messages pro golfers get are insane. A DM my friend received after his T-10 finish on the Korn Ferry Tour today”, followed with the DM that you read earlier. But we have two guesses on who Rogers’s friend could be, as Ryan McCormick and David Chatfield both finished the tournament tied for 10th place, with each posting a score of 4 under par.

Fans raise their voice against the hate in the golf world
Starting off strong with what one fan said, “The craziest part is he’s betting on KFT events”, while the other said, “Betting on KFT events is unhinged degenerate gambler behavior.” Well, it is sort of true that many people don’t like betting on the Korn Ferry Tour because of its relatively lower profile compared to major tours, limited exposure, and the challenge of predicting outcomes among a mix of experienced and emerging players, which can make it less appealing for some bettors.

Speaking on the Korn Ferry Tour and betting, do you know two players were suspended for betting on PGA Tour competitions? Vince India received a six-month suspension starting September 18, while Jake Staiano was banned for three months starting September 11, after they placed bets on PGA Tour events in which they weren’t participating. “This is so messed up”, wrote one fan, while the other just said, “A prime example of why there should be no gambling on sports 😡.”

While betting is not completely prohibited in golf, there are still some rules you have to follow, and the legality of sports betting varies significantly across US states. Currently, 38 states and Washington, D.C. offer some form of legalized sports betting, with most allowing both in-person and online betting, while others limit it to physical locations. States like Missouri are set to join soon, with online sports betting expected to launch in summer 2025. However, 11 states, including Alabama, California, and Texas, still prohibit sports betting altogether.
““Hope you never get your tour card” is wild”, wrote one fan, and well, yes, it is wild, considering the amount of sweat and tears pros put in their game to gain one. Well, that was what netizens’ thoughts but what are your thoughts on the matter? Let us know in the comment section below!
