This week, Clark is participating in his next major, the Open Championship, and is also a part of the featured group as well. At the pre-match conference yesterday, when a media person asked Clark if it has boosted his confidence now that he is in the TV pairings, Clark used it as a great opportunity to uplift Cameron Smith.

The Reporter asked “Does that then also give you increased confidence when you’re now obviously in the glut of all the star names going out in the big TV pairings and the atmosphere tomorrow is going to be buzzing when you guys are kind of teeing it up? “

Clark quickly transferred the light on Smith by saying, “I think it’s fun. Fortunately, I’ve got a great pairing. Cam Smith and I are buddies and so are Xander and I, and both their caddies are friends with my caddie, so it’s a great pairing and it’s going to have fun watching everyone watching our group. It’s the things that I’ve always wanted.” This gesture of sweetness goes on to show that Clark is continuing to maintain his sweet self regardless of success.

R&A embarrass Smith by removing him from the featured group at the Open Championship

Yesterday, the Open Championship handed a big disappointment to the Australian golfer. Smith who is 2022’s Open Championship winner, was not given a place in the featured group for the first round which would be broadcasted on TV. In fact, his name wasn’t even advertised on The Open’s official website in the days leading up to the event. This triggered a string of criticisms from golf fans who strongly criticized the R&A and called this move toward the golfer disrespectful.

Many fans objected that he shouldn’t get a different treatment just because he signed up with LIV Golf, and requested to give him his due credit. In such a situation, Clark coming to Smith’s aid and uplifting him is a great example of true sportsmanship.
