The Masters Tournament is bringing along a wave of great excitement among fans all over the world. And with so much happening in the golf community, fans have several questions about the mega-tournament. The event holds a really strong place in the hearts of these fans as they get to see a huge number of Major champions competing on the same field. However, there are several other players who have qualified for the tournament without having won a Major in their career! Here’s how they did it!

How can golfers without any major participate in the 2023 Masters Tournament?

If you think that winning one of golf’s four major championships is the only way to get into the Masters Tournament, then you might be wrong. There are several other ways that players can find their way into the Masters without being a Major winner. As of now, 104 professional golfers have received their invites to play at the long-awaited event. And this number includes all living past champions!

  • Players Championship winners for 2021-2023 (Three years)
  • Present Olympic Gold Medalist (One year)
  • 2022 U.S. Amateur champion (7-A) (Honorary, non-competing after one year) and the runner-up (7-B) to the 2022 U.S. Amateur champion
  • 2022 British Amateur winner(Honorary, non-competing after one year)
  • 2022 Asia-Pacific Amateur winner
  • 2023 Latin America Amateur winner
  • 2022 U.S. Mid-Amateur winner
  • Top 12 players in the 2022 Masters Tournament (including ties)
  • Top 4 players in the 2022 U.S. Open Championship (including ties)
  • Top 4 players in the 2022 British Open Championship (including ties)
  • Top 4 players in the 2022 PGA Championship (including ties)
  • 2022 Tour Championship qualifiers
  • Top 50 on the OWGR leaderboard for last year
  • Top 50 on the OWGR leaderboard a week before the Masters Tournament

Currently, the list of qualifiers features a lot of big names including Fred Couples, Dustin Johnson, Sergio Garcia, Phil Mickelson, Patrick Reed, Scottie Scheffler, Jordan Spieth, Bubba Watson, Tiger Woods, etc. for being past Masters winners.

On the other hand, players who haven’t won the event ever and have still qualified include Rory McIlroy, Will Zalatoris, Cameron Champ, Tommy Fleetwood, Cameron Young, Mito Pereira, etc.

The essence of the Masters tournament lies in the quality of the field. This means fans get to see all the best players competing together for the same worthy title. However, fans were upset that they might not see some of their favorites at the Masters due to their unexpected shift to LIV Golf. But luckily, the Augusta National Golf Club announced that all qualifiers in the LIV league will be allowed to appear at the major championship. And because of that, players including Bubba Watson, Brooks Koepka, Phil Mickelson, and many more will be able to compete at the 2023 Masters Tournament!
